MEET Talkmore Misawi, a Zimbabwe-born groom who was introduced to Mike de Kock‘s stable at Randjesfontein by his brother, Vengi, a long-time employee.
Talkmore is skilful and caring with horses and got a job as a groom in the yard despite being deaf – or perhaps that‘s the wrong way to say it – he got a job because he is a disadvantaged person who performs his job as well as any other.
Diane de Kock took Talkmore to a Otolaryngologist to have hearing aids fitted.
“Mike paid for the hearing aids and now Talkmore can hear what‘s going on around him,” tells Diane de Kock. “He‘s understandably a very quiet person and he doesn‘t smile a lot, I had to tell him to smile when we took this photo.”
Talkmore‘s other reason to be happy and to start living up to his name is that he has been put in charge of looking after a promising young horse, Mujaafy (AUS), who romped home by four lengths on his debut at the weekend and is described as “an exciting prospect”.
“This is Talkmore‘s first decent horse and he deserves it,” said Diane.
