THE horse on this photo is former Mike de Kock-trained Umgiyo, who accompanied Mubtaahij to the USA for his Kentucky Derby and Belmont campaigns in 2015 and has retired to Miacomet Farm, an Equestrian Sports and Recreation Farm near Georgetown, Kentucky.
Mark and Nicole McEntee are Umgiyo’s new owners and Nicole, who rides him, wrote to Mike de Kock at the weekend, saying:
I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and let you know that I am thrilled to have Umgiyo. I believe he is very special and has limitless potential as a sport horse. I have found him to be extremely intelligent and a complete gentleman to work with. We are only at the very beginning stages but I will be happy to keep you updated with his progress. He is adjusting well to his new life and I just adore him!
Umgiyo, a now five-year-old by Danehill Dancer, will be prepared for a show in October at the Kentucky Horse Park as part of the new Retired Race Horse project.
Formerly owned by Warne and Wendy Rippon and partners, Umgiyo won the 2015 Gulf News Classifieds Handicap at Meydan. He was beaten six lengths in the Gr1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby day, 2015.
