THE Singapore Turf Club has granted South African jockey Derreck David a 1 ½-month visiting jockey’s licence from 1 February to 14 March 2016.
After joining the South African Jockey Academy in 2005, David went on to notch two Gauteng champion apprentice jockey titles before landing the national South African champion apprentice jockey title in 2009.
As a senior jockey, David, 27, continued with the same success in South Africa, riding for leading trainers Mike de Kock and Gary Alexander among others as well as overseas, bringing up his career total to around 650 winners up to now.
David is best remembered for his association with Alexander’s Pierre Jourdan with whom he won two Legs of the Triple Crown, the Grade 2 Gauteng Guineas and the Grade 1 SA Classic in 2010. David’s other big win with Pierre Jourdan came in the Grade 2 Charity Mile in 2011. He also notched a second Gauteng Guineas with Golden Chateau to bring his total Grade 2 and 3 haul to 14 along with four Listed races.
The other highlight of his career is a Mauritius champion jockey title which he claimed at his third season on the Indian Ocean island in 2015. David has also ridden in Zimbabwe and Dubai where he is currently licensed.
David goes to scale at 50kgs.
