AVONTUUR Stud’s world class sire Oratorio made an impressive introduction in the South African sales ring last week.
The son of Danehill ended up as the leading first crop sire by aggregate after two days of trading at the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Oratorio’s 24 yearlings to sell grossed a total of R10 800 000 and averaged a very healthy R432 000.

Top priced paid for an Oratorio yearling at the 2016 CPYS was the R1.1 million that Alesh Naidoo splashed out to acquire a lovely filly out the Var mare Menorah.
Bred by Avontuur, this bay, already named Seraphic, is out of a half sister to the graded winners Cartel and Viva, with the latter also responsible for G2 Choice Carriers Fillies Championship winner and recent UK winner Cold As Ice.
Another yearling sired by Oratorio to prove popular was the colt out of dual G3 Final Fling Stakes winner A Daughters Legacy. This colt, named Ancestry, was sold to Peter and Ross Doyle for R850 000.
Ancestry’s dam is herself a granddaughter of champion racemare Breyani, whose ten wins included the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas and G1 Administrator’s Classic.
A world class racehorse and sire (he has twice headed the general sires list in Italy), Oratorio’s runners have earned over $47 million and they include more than 70 black type performers.
The former European champion, himself a triple G1 winner, has eight individual G1 winners to his credit headed by champions Banchee, Beethoven, and Military Attack. Another of his stars, dual classic winner Cherry Collect, was named Italy’s champion 3yo in 2012.
