DURBAN-based assistant trainer John Buckler hasn’t been seen in Johannesburg since the days of chimney sweeps but with Mike and Mathew de Kock in Dubai, Buckler saddled Moofeed (AUS) to his sixth win from 22 starts in a Conditions Plate over 1000m at Turffontein’s standside track on Tuesday evening.
Moofeed, strong finish.
Moofeed burst onto the scene late and won going away, beating a quality field and Buckler said: “He was outpaced early but Gavin Lerena rode a patient, well-judged race, got Moofeed to full momentum over the last 150m. This was a very good win.”
Moofeed has won three races over 1400m but he likes to revert periodically to the minimum sprint on the standside course. He’s raced here three times for a Gr3 win in the 2015 Tommy Hotspur Handicap last February, a narrow Pinnacle Plate defeat last December and this latest success.
Owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum , Moofeed is by Drakenstein Stud’s imported stallion Duke Of Marmalade from a mare by Encosta De Lago.
