HERE are Mathew de Kock’s comments for Guineas Day at Turffontein Saturday:
R1-million Gauteng Guineas (Gr2), 1600m:
“Everybody might say Anjaal was disappointing last time but I didn’t think he would win and cautioned punters accordingly on Telltytrack. But he has made the improvement we expected. We will be racing him in blinkers and I expect him to run to his form. I wouldn’t leave him out this time. He has improved the most I’ve ever seen a horse improve from race to race. He is draw at 2 so will be there for nothing. Mutamakkin looks held at the weights on his last run but I think Anthony Delpech went to early. This time he will ride him with a bit more patience.
R500,000 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas (Gr2) 1600m:
“Pine Princess is drawn badly and the 1600m is a bit on the sharp side for her. We will have to commit early but on a line through Carry On Alice I believe she has a chance. She will be better suited to the 1800m SA Fillies Classic and the 2450m SA Oaks.”
Smart Maria Theresa may show her worth on handicap terms.
R250,000 Acacia Handicap (Gr3), 1600m
“Maria Theresa has been disappointing. She shows us a lot at home and hasn’t produced it on the racetrack. That she meets her rivals on handicap terms is more in her favour. I think last time she found the race too far. If Wisdom Stone can produce her best form she has a chance.”
R150,000 Aquanaut Handicap (Listed), 2450m:
“Aki Bua had a good win last time. He is distance suited. Raymond Danielson had to go early to keep S’il Vout Plait in a pocket. He is drawn 1 and is as fit as can be. Guy From Dubai needed his last run and might need one more. I give him a small place chance.”
