IT is said that horses instinctively bond with certain humans because of mutual respect and for being attracted to the complexity of the chosen individual’s mind.
Her name contains elements of the mysterious and jockey Weichong Marwing will be wondering if Mary Slack’s filly Wisdom Stone has picked him for a collaborative journey into the mystical unknown!
Weichong has never been booked to ride Wisdom Stone in a race, but he’s replaced her officially engaged riders on the three occasions this year that they were stood down due to illness or injury. Remarkably the five-year-old mare has won all three races for Weichong in stylish fashion, progressing somewhat unexpectedly through the ranks – the latest a 1600m success on turf at Vaal, Saturday.
Here are Wisdom Stone’s progressive wins for Weichong this year:
29 June, Trf Inside Track 1450m MR64 (Won by 2.50 lengths)
2 December, Trf Standside Track, 1400m MR72 (Won by 0.25 lengths)
27 December, Vaal Trf, 1600m, MR 80 (won by 2.50 lengths)
“Having been stable jockey to Mike de Kock I know how his runners improve with every run, so I had the confidence to take Wisdom Stone to the front. She won a great race,” said Weichong on Saturday.
