High Chaparral is euthanased

COOLMORE has announced they had to put down super stallion High Chaparral on Sunday due to a perforated intestine during exploratory colic surgery.

High Chaparral, a son of Sadler’s Wells and born in 1999, was an exceptional racehorse. By the end of his outstanding racing career he had recorded six Grade 1 wins at two, three and four over 1600m, 2000m and 2400m. His wins included two Derbys, two Breeders’ Cup Turfs, an Irish Champion Stakes and the Racing Post Trophy. High Chaparral is a son of sire-of-sires Sadler’s Wells, just like sensational stallions Montjeu and Galileo.

Aged three and four, he was named the Eclipse Champion Turf Horse in the USA and in both years was also the top-rated runner in England and Ireland.

He sired 20 European-bred Group winners, including Group 1 winners Toronado, Lucky Lion, Wrote, Wigmore Hall and Redwood. In Australia he sired four Group 1 winners in his first crop, including international superstar So You Think. Eleven of his progeny are registered in South Africa with sahorseracing.co.za including Parachute Man, who ran in the Cape Guineas last Saturday and Golden Sword, who won two races in Dubai for Mike de Kock before moving to South Africa and running only twice here.
