MAJMU heads the 10 declared runners for the Gr1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth next Saturday, 6 December. The R1-million classic is the joint first leg of the Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara and Mike de Kock also runs Ataab in the same ownership – that of Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.

The Joey Ramsden-trained Cold As Ice, winner of the Grade 2 Choice Carriers Championship, heads the local challenge. She is drawn wider than the De Kock pair and there are doubts about her seeing out the last 200m if the pace is a strong one. Ramsden also runs Grey Light who is down to run at Kenilworth on Sunday.

Double Whammy has 1.25 lengths to find on Cold As Ice on Choice Carriers form but Glen Kotzen is optimistic that she won’t have to make the running this time. Jet Set Go and Inara were third and fourth in the Choice Carriers.

Fly By Night, winner of the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint and also her reappearance in a 1000m Conditions Plate, stands out amongst the nine declared for the Grade 2 Southern Cross Stakes over 1000m on the same card, even though the Adam Marcus-trained Priceless Jewel is officially rated 1kg better. De Kock sends Alboran Sea for this fillies and mares sprint. The draw should be of little significance.
