SHEIKH Hamdan’s grey Majmu, Champion two-year-old filly of last season, could make her seasonal debut on Saturday 4 October in the R400,000 Joburg Spring Fillies & Mares Challenge (Grade 2) over 1450m at Turffontein.
She has drawn No 10 and looks likely to start from a single-figure stall should Mike de Kock allow her to put her unbeaten record on the line in her first start since winning the Fillies Nursery in April.
Mike commented on Sunday: “We have every intention of running Majmu in the Spring Challenge, but the state of the going will determine if we will. If it stays like it is now, we’ll hold her back, but we’re expecting decent rain in the next two weeks, let’s hope it happens.”
He added: “Majmu got sick before the Allan Robertson last season, the virus hit her for a six, but she’s been back in work for a few months and she’s doing extremely well. We’re taking a view of the season as a whole, her immediate mission is the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas. We’d like to give her a prep run or two before that and hopefully the track will be in good enough condition to step her out on 4 October.”
