HORSE Chestnut was raised at Mauritzfontein in Kimberley – along with countless other champion horses. The legacy of the legendary stud farm, originally bought as an old war outpost and developed by the late Harry and Bridget Oppenheimer, now lives on in the next generation Oppenheimer daughter, Mary Slack, and one further on in her daughter Jessica.
Mauritzfontein will be offering yearlings for sale at the Emperors 2014 National Yearling Sale – the first time ever – and their marvellous track record virtually guarantees there will be any number of top class runners in this crop – probably even a champion. Among their lots are yearlings by Ideal World, their new resident stallion making the headlines.
Here’s Andrew Bon’s video clip, offering a preview of Mauritzfontein, a South African institution selling young horses at another institution, the Bloodstock SA TBA Sales Complex, Gosforth Park, starting Sunday.
