RACING editor Jack Milner of Racing Express believes that Mike de Kock,
Mary Slack and Kevin Shea will notch a feature double at Saturday’s Kenilworth meeting with Welwitschia (Gr2 Sceptre Stakes, 1200m) and Ilha Bela Listed (Sun Classique Handicap, 2400m). His view is enthusiastically shared by Sporting Post (www.sportingpost.co.za).
Bank on the Pastor: Kevin Shea has a big strike rate in the Mary Slack silks.
Milner writes that Welwitschia beat “a far stronger line-up (in the recent Diadem Stakes than she faces in this event”, while Ilha Bela is “the best weighted runner, just ahead of Jet Belle.”
Sporting Post’s assessment is that Welwitschia “now faces nine sprinters of her own sex over the same course and distance but at the WFA terms of the race, appears to be the right choice.” Ilha Bela, they reckon, “stands out amongst a modest bunch of locals.”
We won’t disagree with those expert views!
