ONE of the most influential stallions to have stood at stud in South Africa over the past two decades is Fort Wood. Not only was the son of Sadler’s Wells a champion sire, but he has also sired a superb sire son in Dynasty and is currently South Africa’s leading broodmare sire.
Fort Wood is the maternal grandsire of two of South Africa’s top 3yos this season – Cherry On The Top and Capetown Noir. The former is poised to become just the second filly ever to win the Triple Tiara when she lines up in the Gr2 SA Oaks on April 27th, while Capetown Noir (a R1 000 000 buy at the 2011 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale) has won two classics this season and has taken his prize money to in excess of R1 300 000.
