FOR Purple Capital’s CEO Charles Savage, every winner is special, no matter where, when or in which racing division.
Savage and Brad Leather’s filly Warrior’s Passion won her Maiden a few weeks ago when most congratulated the winning owners with the silent afterthought, ‘’She’d be lucky to win again!’, but the three-year-old daughter of Casey Tibbs has followed up quickly – pie in the face for some but big smiles for the winning partnership.
Warrior’s Passion (Robbie Fradd) stayed on well to win a Merit Rated Handicap over 1800m at the Vaal on Tuesday and Mathew de Kock was having a celebratory drink with the connections when we phoned for a comment after the meeting.
“I’ve got Charles Savage right in front of me so I’d better say something nice,” joked Matt, adding: “Seriously though, this victory by Warrior’s Passion carried some merit. She is still a bit green and has more improvement to come, so I’d say she can win another one or two. Mr Savage is smiling from ear to ear!”
These are the simple pleasure of horseracing – a sunny autumn day at the country course, some pre-race butterflies, a few bucks riding on the back of your home-bred filly and the pure joy of watching her courageous run to defeat her rivals!
