OF Mike de Kock’s 11 runners on Super Saturday, four would be considered proper outsiders in their respective races at Meydan.
Royal Ridge (Paul Hanagan) and Disa Leader (Johnny Geroudis), represent the yard in the Gr3 Burj Nahaar over 1600m on the all-weather.
Both have performed well during the 2013 Carnival, Royal Ridge picking up a win, but they’ll be facing some tough opposition here and Mike said: “Royal Ridge and Disa Leader will both have to improve on their ratings to have any chance of being competitive here.”
Daddy Long Legs (113) and Treasure Beach (115), are comparatively better rated in the Gr1 Al Maktoum Challenge over 2000m on the all-weather, both with the proven ability to make their presence felt.
Daddy Long Legs: Can scare them at best, but may need one more run.
However, the race may have come too soon for the pair and Mike said: “Daddy Long Legs is coming along nicely. He’s had two runs following a rest and improved finishing fourth last time. He’s made more progress since, but he’ll probably need another run. He has a chance of sorts.
“Treasure Beach hasn’t raced since last November and he’s not fully wound up. He’s trying the all-weather and we’re not sure how he’ll go, the race will tell us. He had some significant soundness issues which we’ve dealt with, but of course time off affected him on the fitness side. He will make major improvement with this run behind him.”
Royal Ridge would have to run well above his rating to get a blow in. (Andrew Watkins)
