TWO promising South African-bred three-year-olds have joined Mike de Kock, transferred from other stables after ownership changes.
A 50% share of Patriotic Rebel , a two-time winner from nine starts formerly trained by Vaughan Marshall, has been purchased by Larry Nestadt (see profile elsewhere),while Gavin Almanza will retain the other 50%.
Patriotic Rebel.
Patriotic Rebel, by Stronghold, finished fourth to Cape Town Noir in the recent Gr1 Cape Derby.
Just ahead of him in third was the former Piet Steyn-trained Sanshaawes, by Ashaawes, a one-time winner from 12 starts, purchased by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.
Sanshaawes.
Mike said: “I’ve had my eye on the pair for a while, especially on Sanshaawes. Thanks to my patrons for putting their money down and welcome to Gavin Almanza, who has his first interest in the stable.
The deals were negotiated by Jehan Malherbe’s Form Bloodstock.

Dear mr de Kock. My husband Avison and I bred Patriotic Rebel. We raced the family and had wonderful horses, Rebel Patriot, Ravenscraig, Rebellious Streak who are all multiple winners. The latest member of the family, Regal Eagle has just had his 2nd win in 4 starts. We wish you every success with Patriotic Rebel and we’ll follow his progress with you with very keen and affectionate interest. Kind regards Mary Carlisle
Mary your husband has the name of a wonderful but little known Northern composer and his surname is Carlisle which is not far from Avisons home in Northumberland. No wonder you are on song!
