APPRENTICE Lerato Mohapi rode two-year-old filly Nandi to a three-quarter length win in a Maiden Plate for Fillies and Mares over 1200m at Scottsville on Wednesday.
The 4kg claimer partnered Nandi in older company and she won going away at 7-1, not overly popular in the market after a moderate 1000m debut at Clairwood.
Assistant trainer Nathan Kotzen commented: “Nandi had stage freight first time out. She was slow off the mark and green. She’d improved since and this was a promising win, but it’s hard to assess her as she needs to take on stronger company.”
Nandi is by Danehill Dancer from a mare by Sadler’s Wells. She is owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.
