CAMELOT, the 8-13 favourite ridden by Joseph O’Brien for his father Aidan, galloped to a dazzling five-length triumph in the Investec Epsom Derby on Saturday.
It was a third winner of the big race for Irish trainer Aidan and a first for his 19-year-old son.
Main Sequence (9-1), the mount of Ted Durcan, made late ground to take second place in the nine-strong field with O’Brien’s second string Astrology (13-2), finishing third after making much of the running under jockey Ryan Moore.
Mathew de Kock represented Mike de Kock’s stable on this spectacular afternoon which drew an estimated 130,000 racing fanatics. Mathew is in the UK completing the National Stud course. The stable’s former inmate Mickdaam raced for Sheik Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and gave a good account of himself finishing fifth under Paul Hanagan.
Mickdaam is in the temporary care of trainer Richard Fahey.
