TWO newcomers won their debut runs at Clairwood on Sunday, pleasing the stable as there are more unraced runners to be stepped out in weeks to follow.
Grey’s Inn filly Lily Of St Pierre led virtually from start to finish to win a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1200m in the hands of Kevin Shea and Count Du Bois filly Dame Du Bois won a Maiden Plate over 1000m for Muzi Yeni.
Shea said about Lily Of St Piere, who is owned by Markus and Ingrid Jooste: “I didn’t move on her and she won well, which is exciting, because she hasn’t showed us that much at home and this gives us a line on some of our other youngsters. She’s bred to stay further too.”
Dame Du Bois suffered a poor start and was impressive, running on powerfully despite being green, to win going away.

Yeni commented: “I was a bit concerned because she was a first-timer and they were standing around at the start. She was slow off, badly squeezed and then dropped the bit behind horses. But she made up the ground well. She hesitated when she got near the front, but with horses around her she quickened again and gave me a good feel.”
Dame Du Bois raced in the silks of Bernard Kantor, who owns her sire.
