THE 5th Grade 1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas over 1600m takes place on Saturday 3 December at Kenilworth in Cape Town and thousands of punters will be on hand to celebrate this start of the cape summer racing Season.
With prize money of R750 000 on offer, some of South Africa’s fastest 3 year old fillies are expected to grace the turf and punters can look forward to an exciting event with Princess Victoria, trained by Glen Kotzen, one of the favourites. She will be chased by Trinity House and Lady VAR. Declarations close on 24 November, after which the final field will be available.
Springbok Centre Juan de Jongh visited Avontuur Estate last week to learn more about racing and breeding! Here he is with Baltic Beauty, currently in foal to VAR. She is the full sister to Mother Russia, who won the Queens Plate last year. Baltic Beauty is a new acquisition for Avontuur and a wonderful addition to the band of quality brood mares, which the Estate is known for.
Avontuur’s own Equus Sprinter of the Year, Val de Ra is racing in the Gr 2 Tony Taberer Southern Cross Stakes over 1000 m earlier in the afternoon. This champion filly is bringing her magic to the Western Cape and racegoers will look forward to seeing her in action. Competing with her are serious challengers like Covenant and Fragrant Al with Varushka by VAR , also in the running for the Cup.
Visitors are welcome to join the event by booking a seat or a table at R300 pp in the Peninsula Room on the 4th floor of the main complex with its panoramic view over the race course. The VIP ticket includes a lavish 3 course lunch buffet, barista station, cheese display and afternoon tea & cake.
Families are also catered for with free entrance into the race course on the day and a full programme of complimentary kiddies entertainment laid on in the picnic area under the shady trees next to the parade ring. Lots of eats will be available for sale and this is a great opportunity to enjoy a relaxing day, whilst dad supports the racing!
Avontuur Estate is well known for award-winning wine and some of the country’s best-bred race horses and this event combines the glamour of racing with the art of winemaking, highlighting the best of both worlds.
