Mary Slack’s five-year-old mare Gorongosa (IRE), made it three wins from five starts when coming home hard to win a MR84 Handicap over 2400m under Warren Kennedy. To end the meeting, Anthony Delpech steered Ibsaar to a 2.25-length success in a Maiden Plate over 1950m.
Mike de Kock, commenting from Turkey on Sunday, said: “Gorongosa is still improving, being younger than her local rivals. She stays very well and being by Montjeu she’s another good broodmare prospect for Wilgerbosdrift Stud.
“Ibsaar is a promising colt and we’re hoping he can go places for Sheikh Hamdan. He made a good sprinting debut and then took the leap to 1950m as well as we expected him to. He’s one to watch this season.”
Ibsaar is by Australian-based stallion Keep The Faith (Sunday Silence), from a half-sister to Taineberry.
