THREE-year-old Burmese Cat posted a meritorious win in the Listed Highveld Sand Challenge over 1600m at the Vaal on Tuesday, 26 April, holding on well from a fast-finishing Sayadaw and several other seasoned handicappers for a one-length succcess under Willy Figueroa.

Burmese Cat has only raced six times and already has the Listed Storm Bird Stakes over 1160m to his credit. That he took a jump in class to beat nine-time winner Sayadaw, perhaps SA’s best all-rounder on sand, his formidable stablemate Storm Crossing and former Emerald Cup winner Alimony, bears testimony to his talent.
“Burmese Cat sprinted up nicely in his first start on sand last time, but this was a big ask and he handled it with maturity,” enthused Mike de Kock. “He’s versatile, like many of Tiger Ridge’s offspring, and I am more than ever a fan of this stallion. He’s rewarding Mary Slack’s and our faith in him and has a bright future.”
Burmese Cat is owned by the Tiger Ridge Syndicate and was raised at Gernott Eckert’s Highflyer Stud.
