THREE-year-old Kavanagh scored an eye-catching win in a Conditions Plate over 1400m at Turffontein on Wednesday, 9 February. He came from off the pace but never looked in any danger of letting his supporters down when Randall Simons gave him some rein 400m from the line.
Kavanagh raced through smoothly along the rail and disposed easily of Galileo’s Galaxy, a formidable rival on any day of the week.
Kavanagh (Simons): Easy and impressive.
“That was very impressive,” commented Mike de Kock. “We put the blinkers on and he ran on strongly, concentrated well. We’ll go for the Gauteng Guineas next, perhaps the Horse Chestnut 1600 after that.”
Kavanagh, by Tiger Ridge from Quaestio (Seeking The Gold), was bred at his owner Mary Slack’s Wilgerbosdrift Stud.

Mike Congrats on this victory. Even in your absence it shows how formidable your team is under the astute guidance of your wife. once again this outstanding performance speaks volumes of the talent and what other stables have to put up with. It’ll be great to see your stable with your “second string”runners in our upcoming feature races in Zimbabwe. Perhaps this will add spice to our racing here.
