AVONTUUR Estate will be offering nine yearlings by leading sires and great female lines for the inaugural Cape Premier Sale which takes place on 27 and 28 January at Cape Town’s Convention Centre.
Avontuur’s GM Pippa Mickleburgh gives her take on this crop:
Lot 13: Mesmerize
This is a strong precocious colt by VAR, Avontuur’s champion first season sire 2008/2009 out of Classical Magic. He is exceedingly well-topped and definitely seems to have the natural speed we’re starting to expect from VAR’s offspring.
Lot 14: Epic Tale
He is a big, upstanding colt by leading South African sire, Western Winter out of an Eliodor mare, Classique Story. He is well put together and shows signs of being a classic miler. As he’s also the spitting image of his sire, this one is a good looking horse too!
Epic Tale, Avontuur Stud.
Lot 43: Contador
A flashy colt by VAR out of a Fort Wood mare, Fine Wood. He has a super hind quarter and with blood lines closely linked to that of Roland’s Song, he will be a good buy for a guaranteed quick return on investment.
Lot 74: Vivalda
A strong filly by VAR out of Inanda House, and with close links to recent J & B Met winner Zebra Crossing, this is a nice purchase for anyone interested in a really fast horse!
Lot 133: Schiffer
By VAR out of a Jallad mare Model IQ, from the strong female line of Royal IQ, My Kazzie and Mentor, this filly is big and strong with a good, tough attitude
Lot 194: Varuna
This is the first foal by VAR out of the American mare, Sea of Calm. She is a neat filly and a good walker and with her international pedigree, should have really good paddock value after her racing days are over.
Lot 206: Cotillon
She is a pretty filly by Silvano out of Soho Society and is therefore closely related to current speed sensation, Covenant who won again over the weekend. Also related to Pluck and King’s Gambit whose recent international wins makes her a great investment.
Lot 255: Vauclair
An upstanding colt by VAR out of Wild Aster, who was a Group 2 winner and placed in many others. This colt has a super temperament and is the image of his sire, and although bred to be quick, he looks like he could be a miler in the making.
Lot 271: Aqua
By VAR out of stakes winning Captain Al mare Alluvial, this filly is her first. She is very flashy and looks like she’ll be very quick!
“I’m pleased with our selection for the 2011 Sale and look forward to this event in its new up market venue in glamorous Cape Town,” said Pippa. “Don’t hesitate to contact me at stud@avontuurestate.co.za or on my cell phone at 083-658-4404 to arrange for a viewing.”
