IGUGU, second to Hollywoodboulevard in the R1,5 million Emperors Ready To Run Cup over 1400m on 6 November, has been accepted to race in the Grade 1 Avontuur Estate Fillies Guineas over 1600m on Saturday, 3 December.
Igugu, after a win at the Vaal.
Most of Igugu’s supporters were disappointed when she failed to win the Emperors, but Mike pointed out after the race that 1400m is now on the short side for the daughter of Galileo. Her form looks even better after Saturday, when Hollywoodboulevard underlined her own talent with an easy win in the KIC Fillies Mile.
Igugu will take on the Cape’s unbeaten star, Ebony Flyer, in what promises to be a great finish. Justin Snaith’s runner hasn’t raced beyond 1400m, but she doddled the Grade 2 Odessa Stud Fillies Championship over 1400m and the mile should suit her perfectly.
Mike de Kock has engaged Anthony Delpech, who will replace Randall Simons to ride Igugu for the first time.
