The Sansui Summer Cup 2010 is ready to soar as the City of Johannesburg comes on board as a supporting partner for the 2010 event on Saturday, 27th November at Turffontein Racecourse, Gauteng.
CoJ recognizes the potential economic impact an event like this can have on the city and are proud to call themselves a supporting partner of the Sansui Summer Cup. The value proposition impact is significant in terms of revenue, infrastructure, job creation, CSI development and the sustainability of the event. The Sansui Summer Cup will also have a positive impact on both the City and the Turffontein precinct.

This partnership will allow for the development of the Sansui Summer Cup to be a major attraction for the City. The Sansui Summer Cup is aligned with the vision of the City of Joburg World Class African host city and the City of Champions. Julian Bryant, General Manager of New Business Development at MEGAPRO concurred with the vision of CoJ. “We are extremely happy to have CoJ on board for the Sansui Summer Cup as this support is critical in developing the event into a meaningful platform for sponsors and the City alike to extract value, whilst delivering another world class event to its citizens and visitors. With this support, the Sansui Summer Cup is set to rival its coastal counterparts, the Vodacom Durban July and the J&B Met for South Africa’s premier horseracing event.”
CoJ will use the Sansui Summer Cup as a core initiative for the Joburg Tourism Summer Campaign. Lindiwe Kwele, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Johannesburg Tourism Company (JTC) says that in addition to embracing all the spinoffs, wonderful development initiatives and opportunities at the horseracing event of this calibre, her business unit is thrilled to be supporting the Sansui Summer Cup as it aligns with JTC’s strategy to entrench Johannesburg as a leading global destination for business and leisure tourism, retail, sports, fashion, culture and lifestyle events.
Kwele concluded,” The positive media attention garnered during the World Cup gave Joburg an enormous boost and the Sansui Summer Cup will help to maintain and grow that interest and appeal to Johannesburg. We need to nurture and develop significant signature Joburg events like the Sansui Summer Cup to ensure that the city remains forefront on the calendar of both national and international sporting and social events.”
The partnership between CoJ and Sansui Summer Cup will also allow for a global marketing exposure platform in Racing International, which is broadcast to twenty-two countries. This is a great medium to take South African racing and messaging to key international markets. Clyde Basel, Sales Executive Phumelela commented, “We are delighted that the CoJ have come on board, these negotiations have been ongoing for a while and it is fantastic to see perseverance paying off. Now that we have the support of CoJ, there is a positive vibe and commitment of turning the Sansui Summer Cup into Joburg’s greatest sporting event.”
There will also be a development component integrated into the Sansui Summer Cup, whereby the Soweto Jockey Academy will receive exposure and support. The facility is three years old and has 55 children involved in its activities; thirty of these children are doing vaulting and the remaining twenty-five ride horses. The school membership is dominated by children from disadvantaged families.
CoJ will actively market their association as well as the event itself to ensure awareness and support for the Sansui Summer Cup.
