GALANT GAGNANT (right, 11-2)), in his second start after being gelded, ran on well to beat Candy Bar by a neck in Race 5 over 1600m at Turffontein on Monday, 25 February.
He was a bit green and hung out coming into final 200m, but jockey Francois Heroldt straightened him and it was a leggy Candy Bar who hung out sharply and carried Galant Gagnant across the track.
“He’s still a baby,” said the strong Herholdt of the three-year-old owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and Mike de Kock. “We were not sure he would stay the mile, but this was a good win,” said assistant trainer John Buckler.
Gaant Gagnant (yellow silks), fights on to win.
