STABLE jockey Weichong Marwing, who was stood down at Nad Al Sheba on Thursday, still suffering from the groin injury incurred on J&B Met day, will be out of action for at least another week.
With several Carnival features coming up, including next week’s UAE Guineas and Al Maktoum Challenge, Mike de Kock described this as a big blow and said: “Weichong is getting treatment and is trying to establish the severity of the injury. He has been working hard to get our horses ready for the big races but for now we will have to do without him.’’
Last Saturday Marwing was kicked in the winner’s enclosure by his winning mount Show A Profit and was unable to fulfill his later engagements on Bold Ellinore (Majorca Stakes) and Emperor Napoleon (J&B Met).
With former stable rider Kevin Shea serving a suspension, De Kock said that he would be looking for the best available jockeys to replace Marwing on his important up-and-coming mounts. The in-form Mick Kinane and another Irishman Johnny Murtagh would be called upon first.
