FORMER stable star Ipi Tombe delivered her first foal, a colt by Sadler’s Wells, on the night of Friday, February 25th,2005.
John Warren, manager of Highclere Stud, had this to say in a Thoroughbred Times news release: ”She is a good mother. He’s doing fine and is very typical of his sire. You’d have to be pleased. It’s a great first effort.”
The article also announced that Ipi Tombe’s new owners, Richard Santulli and Barry Weisbord, intend to keep her at Highclere until she’s safely in foal to Pivotal. Plans are still up in the air as to whether or not Ipi Tombe will remain in England or return to the USA.
Ipi Tombe retired in 2004 from a career that saw her win 12 of 14 races in 4 different countries. She was Horse of the Year for 2003 in the United Arab Emirates. She won all three of her races in Dubai, twice in course record time at Nad al Sheba and once in stakes-record time, before being sold in foal to Sadler’s Wells for US$1,7 million.
