Oxalis Gold has shown early versatility with two places in sprints and her Maiden win over 1600m. That”s always a good sign for progression. She raced wide of runners from an outside draw on Saturday, never easy on Turffontein’s inside track, but ran through gamely under a good ride from Marco van Rensburg.
The winning distance was just 0.25-lengths, but Van Rensburg wasn’t hard on Oxalis Gold and said: “I just nudged her along, I wanted her to think she was doing pacework at home. I always thought she’d win, we had the better of Kaidan (Brewer’s) filly, The Crown. Oxalis Gold is still weak, she has her career ahead of her. She will improve.
Oxalis Gold races in the Drakenstein silks. She is a daughter of Gold Standard out of Serruria, by Galileo – the stout female lime suggesting the staying ability already evident. She is one to watch.
