WHEEL Of Time is one of the best-bred runners registered with the NHA in South Africa, though he doesn’t near resemble his sire Tapit or, in fact, his granddam Ipi Tombe.
With blood like that flowing in his veins, however, Wheel Of Time is a colt worth persisting with and he will be given a break to mature after picking up his first win at his third attempt in a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1600m at Turffontein on Saturday.
Mathew de Kock commented: “Wheel Of Time is a naughty horse, he needs to mature and he’ll be better older. He didn’t put it in at all in his second start, he should have won that on form, so we’ll wait with him now, give him a chance.
Raised at Drakenstein, Wheel Of Time races for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s Al Adiyaat, and he was handled by Anthony Delpech.
Two-year-old Mujaafy (AUS), was quicker off the mark, winning his debut against older horses in a Maiden Plate over 1200m by over four lengths under Delpech.
“Mujaay is bred to sprint and he flies. He looks like he’ll go 1400m which gives us much hope for his future, he could be an exciting prospect,” Mathew said of Sheikh Hamdan’s young runner.
