CHAMU Mabaya broke his drought when he rode Onamission to victory at the Vaal last week and he followed up at the same track on Tuesday, booting home Hot Curry (headline photo) in a Workriders’ Maiden Plate over 1700m.
Hot Curry was the first of three successive winners on the day for the in-form stable, now with 78 winners in the bag this season and back into the Top 3 on the National Log.
“Chamu rode a winner in my colours last time and now he’s ridden one in my Dad’s silks,” said Mathew in reference to Hot Curry, who races for a big partnership of owners in Mike’s white-and-red silks, famous from here to Malta!
Hot Curry is a two-year-old by Judpot who won against older horses and Mathew said: “He looks like a nice stayer in the making.”
Next up was Pivotal’s four-year-old daughter My Angelface (GB), a twice beaten favourite but one that can go on after winning a 1700m Maiden for owner Jessica Slack and jockey Anthony Delpech. “This was more like the trip she needed and she can win again,” said Mathew.
Jessica’s good run of winners continued with Silvano filly B Twenty One (Delpech), raced in partnership with Peter White, who clocked her fourth win from 11 starts and keeps improving. “She’s a decent staying filly and off the right mark we can win a feature race with her, perhaps a Listed race,” Mathew commented.
