ALL of eight years ago, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s Eagle Mountain won the Gr1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup by 1.25-lengths under Kevin Shea.
Eagle Mountain was retired to stud in 2010 following injury, but proved to have fertility issues. He only produced a handful of foals, was brought back into training for a while and then finally retired.
We salute Eagle Mountain, a son of Rock Of Gibraltar, who was a winner of five of his 19 starts from 1200 to 2000 metres. He raced in six countries and also placed in the English and Irish Derbys, the Champion Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup Turf.
“He was one of the best I’ve worked with,” said Mike de Kock when Eagle Mountain left the stable.
Here are some photos from the Hong Kong Cup.
