Mubtaahij and Christophe Soumillon: A scene we’d love to see after the Kentucky Derby.
The Kentucky Derby encapsulates everything that is great about the Sport Of Kings and this includes the many traditions that are associated with the race from the winner being adorned by a wreath of 554 red roses, the massive crowd of around 150,000 imbibing on mint juleps and the singing of the folk song My Old Kentucky Home while the horses are parading.
The race is regarded as one of the hardest in the world to win because more than 23,000 thoroughbred foals are born in the USA most years and every breeder’s dream is to win “The Derby”.
The UAE Derby is the only qualifying race for the Kentucky Derby run outside of North America whilst the best ever finishing position for UAE Derby winner in the Kentucky Derby is sixth.
