JOCKEY Gavin Lerena pushed Serruria (headline photo) into a narrow gap in a Maiden Plate over 1700m at the Vaal on Saturday. This contributed to the daughter of Gallileo winning her Maiden for Gaynor Rupert’s Drakenstein Stud.
“Serruria showed a lot of heart going into that space and she deserved to win. She was ill for a while and we couldn’t get her to the track, so thanks to Mrs Rupert for her partience,” said assistant trainer Mathew de Kock.
Debut winner Moofeed (AUS), made a good impression in a 1400m race for Work Riders, winning by 2.50-lengths under Chamu Mabaya.
Moofeed galloped clear on his debut.
Owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s Al Adayaat South Afric. Moofeed is a three-year-old colt by Duke of Marmalade from Dizzy De Lago and he’s a strong, well-built half-brother to the equally sturdy Musir and sprinter Merhee.
“Moofeed showed good work and we expected him to go close. This was a srong work riders race and he’s one to watch for further progress. He has more in the tank,” commented Mathew.
