THE National Trainer’s Championship developed into an intriguing tussle between Mike de Kock and Sean Tarry, but the former is now in an unassailable position.
However, the Kwazulu-Natal Trainer’s Championship is still very much up for grabs. This particular Provincial Championship is decided on number of wins in KZN and De Kock is only one ahead of the Dennis Drier yard going into today’s final race meeting of the season.
Dennis Drier, always a force to contend with.
De Kock has won 77 races to Drier’s 76. But, for those who believe in omens, Drier might have some hope as the name of De Kock’s first runner on the day is Bridge Too Far.
De Kock will contest three races at the meeting and all of them, the first•timer Bridge Too Far in race I, Afnaan in race 3 and Gogetthesherriff in race 4, are ruling favourites.
Drier only has two contestants of two races, as well as two reserve runners. Both of his current runners are second favourites in their respective events.
Drier felt that his runner in the first, Diamond Alley, would be hard to beat but that 1200m may be too short for Captain’s Chronicle. – David Thiselton.
