SHODDY Nick, a son of Grey’s Inn, predictably enjoyed his first run over 1600m and came away to win his Maiden at Clairwood on Sunday by three lengths under Anthony Delpech.
Joint-owner Mike Destombes of Bold Ellinore fame is not shy of a punt and this one was backed in from 5-2 to 11-10 favourite, producing the goods.
Not so shabby: Shoddy Nick slammed his rivals.
Shoddy Nick can be watched for more improvement and breeder Graeme Koster of Karoo-based Rosedene Stud, who stands Grey’s Inn, said: “Shoddy Nick’s dam Eastern Lily produced a filly by Tiger Ridge who will be going to Mike de Kock soon. She’s currently in foal to Biarritz, who also stands here at Rosedene.”
Earlier in the day, Lammerskraal Stud’s Jet Master filly Berlinetta was easier to back at 3-1, but won as impressively, skating home by 3.75-lengths. She’s from stakes-winning filly She’s All That and is yet another for the notebook.
Well-bred Berlinetta made it look oh so easy.
