HERE are Mike’s runner comments for Charity Mile Day. See headline article for Charity Mile race.
Ready To Run Cup:
EMALIYAMI: She probably needs further but could run into them money. She won a good Maiden and her last run produced winners subsequently.
LONSOME DOVE: She is a little unsound and problematic to train. She is very fast so the distance is questionable. From draw 15 we will either have to commit or drop her out and have the danger of sitting near last.
Graham Beck Stakes:
CANNON needs further but this is a prep run for the Dingaans and will give us some idea of how good he is.
REIGN AS KINGS will try this distance for the first time but he is bred for it. He is getting stronger and on his work 1400m should not be a problem.
DANCING SPIRIT is a smart horse in the making. This is slightly short but I would like to see how he shapes.
DUBAI DIZZY is in this class and has a chance.
Starling Stakes:
FESTIVAL OF FIRE won the Jhb Fillies and Mares Stakes over 1450m last time and she’s a very nice filly. She is distance suited but will get 1600m.
AL KINDI won over 1600m last time and this could be a touch too short, but she is useful.
HONORINE has a breathing problem but wants this sort of trip. She needed her last run badly and is a smart filly.
TAYBA has lots of stamina and was beaten a short head over 1400m earlier in her career.
Golden Loom Sprint:
WELWITSCHIA has a hard task at the weights. I am trying to get her ready for the Merchants and some Cape Town races so I don’t have many other places to run her. I think she is at her best over 1200m.
Race 3:
TEQUILA SUNRISE is badly drawn but you can get away with it over 2000m. Last time, over 1400m, he was running on late. He is difficult, may need blinkers, but I’m expecting a good run.
Race 11:
TAWAKUL is an average filly who has been overrated by the handicapper for her Maiden win.
Race 12:
EMERALD APPROACH is not a bad horse. The handicapper was probably a bit harsh giving him 88 off a Maiden win. I think he wants the going to be on top and if it’s not too soft tomorrow, he is a runner.
