WITH the South African Jockeys’ Championship coming to an end on 31 July, contender Anton Marcus could add another invaluable victory to his tally aboard Canterbury Tale (photo) in Race 6 over 2000m at Greyville on Friday night, writes TREVOR REID. 

Bookmakers have taken no chances and have priced up Canterbury Tale in the red at 9-10. The Mike de Kock-trained gelding is clearly going to be hard to beat.

Canterbury Tale has only run five times and is still improving. He should prefer this 2000m, which he tries for the first time.

This Grey’s Inn gelding has had the benefit of running under the lights, having finished fourth behind Silver Flyer on debut more than a year ago.

Although he was disappointing when well beaten over the Greyville 1900m four runs back, Petite Master has recently been running on well over shorter and could fight out the finish. Pole position draw will clearly help his cause.

Lago Lida was 5.75 lengths behind Canterbury Tale when they last met and is 3kg worse off so should battle to win, but the five-year-old is capable of running into minor money.

Trainer Gary Alexander’s charge Radiant Rock clearly needed his last run and should be cherryripe to run a better race over a course and distance to which he should be well suited.

Puccini and Danish Silver are distance suited and are capable of running well but it should be Marcus and De Kock getting the biggest cut of the stake.
