Fisani’s third Graded win

fisani30april

FISANI added the Grade 2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes (R300 000) over 2000m at Turffontein’s Champions Day, Saturday, to her Grade 2 win in the 2010 Gauteng Fillies Guineas and her Grade 3 2010 Jacaranda Handicap win.

Fisani (Gavin Lerena), easy and impressive. (JC Photos).

Four-year-old Fisani, partnered by in-form Gavin Lerena, hit the wire 1.50-lengths clear of Queen’s Bay and stablemate Alderry, taking her career record to seven wins from 17 starts.

Lerena moved Fisani into second behind pacemaker Queen’s Bay when the field approached the home turn. He said: “They crawled around the bend and I brought her closer, we tracked the leader. She always tries her best and she’s a very fit filly. She gave me all the way.”

Fisani took over with 400m to run, travelling well. Queen’s Bay fought back over the next 150m and Alderry also tried hard to make progress, but Fisani had their measure going into the last 200m and she won perhaps a bit easier than the margin suggests.

Jockey Gavin Lerena and fiancee, Vicky Badenhorst, celebrated Fisani’s win in Mike de Kock’s “Fun Box” at Turffontein.

Mike de Kock commented: “The three class acts ran 1-2-3. I didn’t think our pair had much to beat and I had my doubts about Alderry over 2000m, so I was pretty confident that Fisani would be the right one. She’s had a good run of form this year, well done to Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Mick Goss and Ronnie and Bev Napier. She’s given them a lot of pleasure.”

Fisani was bred by Summerhill Stud and fetched R400 000 at the 2008 Emperors Ready To Run Sale, an auction with a growing list of top perfomers including Pierre Jourdan, Blue Voyager, Club Victor, Grail Maiden, Havasha, Mannequin, Samnjemanje, Winning Leap And Mahubo, a winner in Dubai earlier this year.

Fisani is by Kahal from Gypsey Spirit, a prolific mare by Coastal who has already produced six winners from six runners, including other well-performed runners Catmandu  (Makaarem), and Ecole Militaire (Deep Sleep). Fisani’s half-sister by Catalochee fetched R160 000 at the 2010 R2R Sale. She is in training with Yvette Bremner at Fairview.
