Champion Stakes next

BUFFALO Bill Cody (IRE – Gavin Lerena) brought plenty of cheer to the stable on Sunday after the unfortunate incident with Hawwaam before the start of Saturday’s Vodacom Durban July.

The four-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice, returning from a seven-month rest, made his accomplished rival Cirillo look ordinary when he slammed him by 3.25-lengths in a Pinnacle Plate over 1600m at Turffontein.

Buffalo Bill Cody, impressive.

While Mathew de Kock was doing saddling duties at the city track, Mike de Kock and owner Mary Slack watched the race from Durban and popped a bottle of champagne in celebration, both delighted.

Mike commented: “I’ve always thought that Buffalo Bill Cody is a little better than Hawwaam. He is very good and this win over Cirillo proves it. We’ll be taking Buffalo Bill and Soqrat to Durban at the end of the month for the Champion Stakes. Hawwaam and Barahin will be rested.
