Nowhere but the winning post

ALIBI Guy was a first winner on the Highveld for Wilgerbosdrift’s impressive stallion, Flower Alley, and also Mike de Kock’s first winner for the Ralphs family.

Stoutly-bred, two-year-old Alibu Guy made his debut over 1600m at the Vaal on Tuesday and ran on well to win for Randall Simons, despite being green in the closing stages. He found a nice run on the rail, put his rivals away quickly but then started looking for company, not a bad sign at all as he found enough under hands and heels to score from Steak and Ale, a late-running rival.

This Ralphs runner had a solid Alibi: He was at the winning post!

Mike commented: “I like Flower Alley as a stallion, he’s producing nice horses. Alibi Guy is from Treaj Pots, who won the Queen Palm for us. I’ve trained a few of her family, including Baby It’s You, Happy Valley, Milk and Honey and Sweetie Pie.

“They were all good, solid stayers and Alibi Guy is in the same mould. He looks like a mile-and-a-half horse, he is scopy and should go on from here.”

Mike thanked Lindsday and Kathryn Ralphs for their support, saying: “They are major investors in racing, deserving every winner.”
