Good options for Soqrat

THEIR customary roles were reversed as Mike de Kock’s Soqrat had to bow a knee to Joey Ramsden’s smart colt Twist Of Fate in Friday night’s Gr2 KZN Guineas at Greyville, but Mathew de Kock was encouraged by the way Soqrat ran on from the widest of draws in the closing stages of the keenly contested race.

Mathew said: “I’m glad we learnt our lesson early this season. When you’re drawn wide at Greyville, you may as well stay at home. We’re not going to waste our time again. As early as 800m from home I knew we had no chance of getting there.”

Mathew added:”I have always thought that Soqrat will see out 2000m and the way he ran tonight goes gives me more confidence. We have options with him, including the Gr1 Rising Sun (1600m), the Champions Cup (1800m) and the Daily News (2000m). He’ll be back!”
