‘Mambo’ fails by a neck

MAJESTIC Mambo was beaten a neck in an exciting finish to Friday evening’s Nad Al Sheba Classic over 2000m at Meydan in Dubai.

In his third UAE start, the 2018 Durban July-placed gelding was slow into stride, but made steady progress through the field to get into a challenging position and ran on strongly under Adrie de Vries, but the strong front-runner Ajwad (GB) kept him at bay just long enough.

Mike de Kock commented: “We are happy with the run considering the little time we’ve had in preparing him. Going through the 400m mark it looked as if Majestic Mambo would get there and win, but the winner was a horse in top form, he won by almost 5 lengths last week and just held on, ran to his rating and so did we.

“Majestic Mambo will be a nice horse for next year’s Carnival,” Mike added.
