Baroot’s surprise win

MIKE de Kock was watching his fancied runner Bold Rex get into trouble behind horses in the Cepsa Energy Cup over 1600m on turf at Meydan on Thursday night, when stable companion Baroot found a way through and ran on powerfully to win the race.

“This was a surprise, I had to look again. I though the commentator had called the wrong horse!” Mike told the post-race interviewer. He added later: “I like surprises!”

Baroot, a seasoned campaigner in Dubai but thought to be in need of his first run in in nine months, looked quite flashy and proud as he strode away to give his rivals a two-length beating and Mike said: “He’s a game horse and he’s by Dubawi, they just get better and better!”

He praised Adrie de Vries for “a top class ride” and De Vries said: “Baroot was just waiting for a gap and went through a narrow one. When he did, it was over.” He was impressed and suggested there “could be more in the tank.”

Baroot is a seven-year-old owned by Sheikh Ahmed (son of Sheik Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum), and he’s won 5 of 19, with six places.

As for Bold Rex, he was beaten only 4.75-lengths in a much improved performance and would arguably have place if he found his way through the wall with 300m to run.

  1. Loga govender says:

Please report on the other horses e.g. Marinar3sco. We only read about them before a race.

  2. Mr.De kock plz try baroot in al rashidiya

  3. Excellent work Baroot: if that was no flash in the pan based on the 2nd 3rd, who were ready to go prepped. The form looks solid enough. Maybe you have one well handicapped Horse. If he goes up 6 i still reckon he ran a lifetime best and rate him 114 on that run .he ran to a 128 predictive rating UK imperial. I always find Trainers
Are the best Tipsters and know the Handicap system better than anyone, I have learned from them over 40 yrs having Horses and being a Geek Handicapper myself. Im never scared to give these Astonishing numbers for Baroots run. A horse who usually runs on a Sat Meydan card: so mike you must have seen something to try him on a Thursday card?. Maybe not but well Trained Sir. The Mighty Mike De Kock is a Legend in my household.

  4. Baroot was very impressive. He just exploded in the last few meters as pointed out by the commentator. Wow. There should be some more decent run coming up for him
