Plans for three winners

SHEIKH Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s Teofilio colt Yakeen, rated 99 after his MR94 Handicap win at Turffontein on Sunday, will be going next for the Gr3 Jubilee Handicap at Turffontein in a fortnight.

One of three winners for the stable at the meeting, Yakeen (Muzi Yeni) rallied well to beat Pilou and Mathew de Kock said: “He’s doing very well, he is talented but we’ll probably have to win the Jubilee Handicap to get into the Durban July.”

He added: “We’ll be running Cascapedia in the Jubilee too. She qualifies already, but missed her prep when we had a strike at Randjesfontein. She is doing really well at home.”

The day started with two impressive Juvenile winners, both home-breds for Sheikh Hamdan of Dubai, and both ridden by Randall Simons.

The first, Soqrat (AUS), was showing ability at home but he was a bit green in work. He ran a sensible race, however, quickened well and skipped away to win by 3.25-lengths.

The form of Firdoas (AUS) was franked when her conqueror Captain’s Princess finished third in the Gr2 Nursery. She ran another cracker, skating home by 6,50-lengths without any fuss.

“They’re both decent. We’ve got the two Juvenile features over 1400m in KZN next week earmarked for them,” Mat said.
