Runner comments, Met Day

HERE are Mathew de Kock’s comments for the stable’s runners on Sun Met Day at Kenilworth.

Sun Met
“Nother Russia has been in the Cape for six weeks and raced in the Grade 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes over 1800m. I thought it was a good run but not her best run. She normally travels well and quickens up very nicely. That day I looked at my dad and said ‘we’re in big trouble’. She was going out the back door and not running on. And then all of a sudden she changed gear and took off at the end. So I definitely think with a run under her belt on the course she will run a much better race. She has not run out of the first four and if she had a decent draw I would be confident she would be in the first four again.”

CTS 1200
“Best Kept Secret is well within herself but has a bit to do at the weights.”

Cape Derby
“Like A Panther (headline photo)  is a smart colt. I thought he acquitted himself very well in the Guineas. He is definitely a 2000m-plus horse and only got going very late in the Guineas. The Derby is a very competitive race but I’m very confident he will be there again.”

Cape Flying Championship
“Naafer is probably a 1200m specialist but does have a lot of early toe. He is a good horse and I think he’s better than Alfolk but whether he is better over 1000m is uncertain. I don’t think this is the strongest rendition of the race and I rate him with a big chance.”
