October’s a beautiful month

OCTOBER has traditionally been a solid winning month for the stable and the good run continued with a hat-trick of winners at Turffontein  Saturday – Alshibaa, Alfolk and Hot Curry all winning at decent odds.

Newcomer Alshibaa (AUS 9-2) cracked on well for Callan Murray for a winning introduction to punters in Race 1 over 1200m and Mathew de Kock said: “He was still a bit soft and being by Street Cry a mile should be his game, so this was a good win.”

Mathew had expressed confidence about Alfolk (AUS) in a post-race interview and was surprised that the gelding by Lonhro was allowed to start at 4-1 in Race 3 over 1000m. He came home easy, 1.25-lengths ahead for Murray and Mat said: “Gelding and cheek pieces have done the trick. Alfolk is a different horse to what he was. He gets out fast now and runs strongly, he was sluggish before. He’s one to watch.”

Hot Curry (17-2, JP van der Merwe), won a nice race for Mike de Kock and partners, trying 1900m for the first time to complete the stable’s treble.

“More ground is his game, he can win again,” said Mat about the gelding by Judpot.
