Eisenhower and Winklemann

TWO lightly-raced three-year-olds formerly based in Europe have joined Mike de Kock’s stable.

Eisenhower, who had four runs for trainer Aidan O’Brien in Ireland, and Winklemann, who raced for Bruno Grizetti in Italy, have been shipped to Dubai and are in quarantine with five other De Kock newcomers to the UAE from South Africa. They will soon be based at Blue Stables near the Meydan Racing Complex.

Eisenhower (USA) is a son of the well-performed Danzig stallion War Front from Volga, a stakes-winning mare by Caerleon.  He won his second start over 1000m at Cork Racecourse last April and has raced twice since up to Listed Company. He will compete in the silks of Coolmore Stud in partnership with a Mike de Kock Racing Syndicate.

Winklemann, bought for Dubai Carnival.

Prominent South African owner and businessman Larry Nestadt purchased Winklemann at the Arqana Sale in Paris in October.  He’s raced four times for a 1700m Maiden win in Rome and was Gr-3 placed in the Italian 2000 Guineas.

Winklemann is by former European Champion Rip Van Winkle, who sired a Gr1 winner in Dick Whittington from his first crop, from a Green Desert mare and the Tawny Syndicate’s JJ van der Linden commented: “Larry liked this horse because he has a rating of 101 and looks like a decent prospect for racing at the Carnival in Dubai.”

  1. Good luck to all connections . Not long before Mdk takes runners like these to the top again. Winklemann looks a strong horse. Not sure about Italy form but work your magic Mike!
