Jet Master’s progeny impress

TWO progeny of the deceased former champion stallion Jet Master won for the stable at the weekend.  Both drew lots of betting support.

Two-year-old colt Mercurial Brave (6-10, Anton Marcus), bred by The Alchemy by Jet Master from Island Squaw, won on debut at Greyville on Friday evening for the partnership of Markus and Ingrid Jooste, Marsh Shirtliff and Bryn Ressell.  Starting from the widest of draws, he ran on steadily to beat stablemate Rock Cocktail in a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1300m.

Assistant trainer Nathan Kotzen commented: “Mercurial Brave and Rock Cocktail are really nice horses who should both develop into good sorts. Mercurial Brave has a beautiful action, Rock Cocktail just needed this pipe-opener, watch him next time.”

Wilgerbosdrift-bred, Themis (headline photo), was a popular Place Accumulator banker in a Maiden Plate for Fillies and Mares over 1400m at Scottsville on Sunday.

Starting at cramped odds of 3-10, the daughter of Jet Master and a Seeking The Gold mare raced into the lead early and won unchallenged, impressive for owner Mary Slack.

Jockey Anthony Delpech said about the four-length winner:  “Themis is small, but she has everything in the right places. She has a nice action and she enjoyed it in front today. I thought she’d be an aimer and she won in a canter!”
